How Fragile We Are | Canvas

Hello and Happy weekend! We have Heather here on the blog today with an amazing mixed media canvas featuring lots of our stamps and stencils with our ‘How Fragile We Are’ sentiment stamp…

Hello to you all and a very happy new year to all of you. I’m back with some new Visible Image inspiration for you and I’m hoping to ‘up my game’ a bit this year and push myself into new directions.

My first make for 2021 is this 8×6″ canvas using Shining Bright, Glimmer of Light and How Fragile for the main focal images of the piece.

I’ve been having a bit of a clear out in my craft room of late. I gave a huge amount of paper pads away to some neighbours and in my clearing up I found some half used canvases of which this is one.

Before I gave it a couple of coats of gesso, the canvas was a pale blue with various stamped images, it even has some tissue paper strips down one side but none of the bothers me as I love a bit of texture!

Once I’d gesso’d it (gesso is a primer so is a good base for most surfaces) I clear embossed Fibonacci in a couple of random places so that once I added ink, the image would come through and give some white texture in the background.

I used Distress Oxide Sprays (Chipped Sapphire, Rustic Wilderness and Evergreen Bough) for this make as I love their matt and almost chalky finish and just dabbed them on using the tiny straw in the bottle and brushed them on. I did go over them using blender brushes just to neaten the surface slightly before adding crackle paste with the fabulous Count Me In stencil.

While the crackle pastes dries I began on the little circle (5″ in diameter) and this is just to break up the rectangle really, to add more interest and somewhere to focus the images. I’ve used Organics to continue the crackle theme that I’ll be using on the main bulb. Having stamped it using VersaFine Clair Morning Mist, I used a clear embossing powder to add a bit of sheen and to protect the stamping as I wanted to add Distress Oxide inks over the top.

Create Your Imagination | Eye Stencil

Hi there! Today’s inspiration from Jane Tyrrell features some of the stamps and stencils on our Create and Craft TV shows tomorrow! (More details below).  Jane’s striking card was created with our gorgeous EYE CONTACT stencil, the moth and lightbulb stamps from our GLIMMER OF LIGHT set with a fantastic sentiment stamp…

Good Evening

I am here with my latest Visible Image design team make. Mark aka Mr Visible Image will be appearing on your TV screens again TOMORROW (Tuesday 27 October) at midday on Create and Craft. It is a longer 1 1/2 hour show and he will be sharing some awesome demos plus samples from myself and my teamies.

3 of the products on the show are the amazing Eye contact stencil

and the brilliant Just Be Happy stamp set

I decided to make a canvas with them for my show sample.

This is what I got up to;
Using Versafine Onyx ink and an stencil brush I stenciled the eye onto white smooth card and then clear embossed it. I then stamped all the other elements of the design as well. I didn’t worry about masking the corner of the eye where the small light bulb went as I would be adding a cut out bulb when finished.

Using Zig watercolour pens I coloured all the moths

I added a little shimmer with a glitter pen to the wings

I stamped out several of the light bulbs and clear embossed. I coloured the element and then added glossy accents. Here they are wet, they go transparent when dry and I then cut them out

I coloured the pupil of the eye in rainbow glitter pens and again added Glossy accents. I then left everything to dry

I then put my design together.

Here it is..

Glimmer of Light | Moth Stamp

Hello and Happy Friday! Lynda Hall is here to inspire you today with an awesome card featuring the moth stamp and inspiring sentiment from our GLIMMER OF LIGHT set, and our STROBES stencil…

It’s my Visible Image sharing day, and today I am featuring a rather dramatic card using the Glimmer of Light stamp set, along with the Strobes stencil. With the current Covid situation there are certainly some dark moments for many of us, and I think the sentiment on this is definitely one to remember. Things will get better if we all just hang on in there.

moth stamp | mixed media card

I began with a base piece of card with distress oxide spray inks in orange and yellows. I taped the Strobes stencil down, and applied a generous layer of black texture paste through it.

Before it dried, I sprinkled Sparkling sand Wow embossing powder , and a touch of Perfect Pearls mica all over it.

Then came the magic part- heating it all up!

As well as melting the embossing powder, the wet texture paste swells and bubbles, adding even more texture. Yummy!

Once totally cool I added more colour to the rays with sparkle pens…

..and darkened the edges with black soot distress ink to draw the eye to the centre.

The next step was to stamp and emboss lightbulb onto heat resistant acetate. I coloured on the back with alcohol ink. I stamped the moth on the same coloured card as the base and coloured with pens.

The bulb, moth and sentiments were all adhered with 3d gel glue for added dimension.

You can see this sample and more amazing ones from the team on Create and Craft TV on 27th October. Mark will no doubt have some fabulous demos to inspire too, so watch if you can!

Moth Stamp On Fishnet Stencil

Hello and Happy Friday to you! Today’s inspiration comes from stempelfrida who has made a fantastic mixed media card featuring our moth stamp and ripped fishnet stencil, with some elements from our ‘Somewhere in Time’ stamp set…

You cannot turn back the clock and change the past. That’s the way it is, and I think it’s also pointless to think about “what would have happened if…” because who knows if things would have turned out differently again.

With this attitude I managed my life well so far. It has helped me a lot to take decisions. In this moment, in this situation, with this mood and at this point in time you made your decision. And that is good. Fate contributes its part.  This situation will never come back. It is about standing by your decision and moving on. Do not look back, but enjoy the moment and look ahead. If it is intended differently for you, something will happen to you again, someone will meet you, something will happen…

moth stamp | fishnet stencil | handmade card | alcohol inks

For this collage I used a special technique to transfer an alcohol ink background from Yupo paper to normal paper. You use Alcohol Lift Ink Reinker. From this you put some drops on the background, spread them with a brayer, put a paper over it and smooth it with your hand.

The wonderful thing is that you can stamp and emboss on the “normal paper” this way. On the three photos you can see it well:

1. alcohol ink background on Yupo paper

2. transfer on normal paper

3. stamped background

On the background I applied colorless embossing paste through the ripped fishnet stencil. When it was firm in consistency but not yet completely dry, I applied Perfect Pearls in gold. So you can see through the structure, but it has a nice golden shimmer.

I also added Nuvo Drop pearls.

I stamped the moth with Ink on 3 and fussy cut it. I then coloured it with Copics. I shaped it and glued it to the background with distance pads.

I rounded off the corners of my card and the base and knotted some bast around the text.
