Birthday Cake Stamps | Handmade Card

Hello! Thanks for visiting our blog today. Lynda is back with a fabulous handmade card created with the Birthday cake stamps from our *NEW* BLOW OUT THE CANDLES stamp set..

Today I am sharing a birthday card using the wonderful new ‘Blow Out The Candles’ stamp set from Visible Image.

My favourite type of cake is chocolate cake, so I had to cook that up first with this set! Plus, I wanted to steer clear of the classic pink frosting and show how this stamp can used to include the cake loving men in your life!

I started with a distress oxide background, laid the ‘Drizzle’ stencil across the top and spread Izink Ice through it in brown.

While that dried I used my Zig markers to colour the cake.

More Ice on the top gave the cake a gooey chocolatey look. Yummy!

Before this dried, I sprinkle some ultra fine gold glitter over the top.

I stamped and coloured the candles, and stamped and heat embossed the spark on acetate to mount behind the flame.

Once everything was dry I mounted with 3D gel glue and added the sentiment.

This really is a must have set for the collection. After all, everybody loves cake!!

Hello and Happy Friday to you! We have more DT introductions and wonderful inspiration for you here on the blog today! We are so happy that another of our existing designers is staying…

Sharon is on our BLOGGING TEAM!

Many of you will already know Sharon who has been with us for almost 5 years now! We adore Sharon’s amazing clean and simple cards which never fail to wow us!

My ‘happy place’ is when I’m surrounded by inks and stamps. I discovered my passion for card making in 2008. I love CAS designs but sometimes feel the urge to get grungy and inky too!

Hello there!

Do you find that you always need a few cards in your stash that are just ready to go? Ones that will work for all sexes and be appropriate from youngsters through teens right up to those of us who are much older?  Ah, go on…..I bet we all have those occasions when a birthday date sneaks up on us without us realising. Those pesky birthdays have a habit of doing that 😉

Well, one of the tricks that I use to create those cards is to take a background stamp or two and a sentiment and creat something clean, simple and repeatable. So, when the Grunge Tones and Lost For Words stamp sets from Visible Image landed on my doormat I (squeeled) knew they would become a perfect staple for those cover all occasion cards.

As these are super CAS cards I have a brief walkthrough plus a trick to make half of your sentiment sparkly, as you’ll see in the photo above.

First, taking the larger dotty stamp, place it in a stamping platform with a piece of white card. Normally I use post-it notes to do any masking but mine had run away on the day I made this one. So, instead, I carefully masked off the stamp with a piece of card (which will be used to create another background – waste not , want not!) and gradually stamped in a rainbow of distress oxides. Leave it to dry completely because we are going to emboss on top of it.

Next, take your card blank and protect it by inserting a sheet of scrap paper in the middle, and using the same inks with the smaller dotty stamp, create a border.

It doesn’t matter if you leave spaces on the border or stamp without spaces because both options look good. This is what you are trying to achieve:

Now that the smaller mat with the large dots on it is dry, we’re going to stamp and heat emboss the sentiment. Once again we need to add the stamp and the mat to a stamping platform because we will be stamping and heat embossing twice. For the first emboss I stamped in black Versafine ink and also used a black embossing powder. Once that had cooled I replaced the card into the stamping platform and inked up only the larger word with some clear embossing ink, then I added a clear sparkle embossing powder and heat embossed again. Simple, but effective.

All that remains is to back the central panel with some coordinating card stock and add it to the card blank with fun foam, although you could always omit the fun foam if you want to cut down on postage.
