A Little Bit Of Calm

Good Evening! Hope you are having a good week. It’s certainly gone incredibly fast here, can’t believe it’s Friday again tomorrow.. so soon!

Sharon Traynor is our ‘Queen of Clean and Simple Cards’ and she has another stunning one to inspire you today…

Hi!

It’s time to share another card that I’ve made with some of my fabulous Visible Image stamps. Today I’m using the wonderful seahorse from the Create Your Calm set and teaming it up with some Ink Splats (to represent bubbles) and the Fibres stencil for a bit of movement in my inky panel.

I left the camera running whilst I made this card…

I’m loving how I can take a large stamp and yet still create something wonderfully clean and simple with it. This is such a beautiful seahorse stamp, but as Veerle has shown how to expertly colour it (which you can see by clicking HERE for her video), I thought I would leave it in monochrome for a contrast on my inky band.

How to make this:

First heat emboss the seahorse with clear ink and a sparkly black embossing powder, then mask the seahorse with either a post-it note or some masking fluid.

Next mask off a section of your card for the inked band and blend 3 colours of distress oxide ink (cracked pistachio, peacock feathers, salty ocean) into the unmasked area to create a smooth ombré look.

Blend more ink through the fibres stencil using broken china and peacock feathers distress oxides and next splatter water droplets onto the panel.

Use second generation ink with the two remaining stamps (the ovals and circles) in the Create Your Calm set, to add more subtle interest to the background, stamping these in faded jeans and peacock feathers distress oxides.

Remove the masking, and add your sentiment. I split the ‘own’ and ‘calm’ into two separate words using a masking technique, shown in my video, so that I only inked the word I wanted at each place.

Now ink the splatters from the Ink Splats set in salty ocean, peacock feathers and cracked pistachio distress oxide.

Use a clear sparkle pen on the water droplets in the inky band to give them some shimmer. Use the same sparkle pen in the white areas of the seahorse.

The final part is to add glossy accents onto the ink splat ‘bubbles’ and also randomly across the band.

Peaceful Seas

Hello! We are back with more fantastic inspiration this evening! Sharon Traynor has been rather creative with our Zodiac Libra stamp set…

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by.

When is a set of balance scales, not a set of balance scales? …… when they are yachts of course 😉
Today I  have a fun mixed media card where a Visible Image stamp has also been repurposed into a completely different image. It’s a great one for the guys too.

Anyway, did you catch the amazing Visible Image shows on Create and Craft recently? Mark and Pauline did some incredible demos with the ‘Written in the Stars’ collection. And during the first show Mark mentioned that he could see a boat in the Libra symbol. “Yes!” (I thought), “he’s an absolute genius! Of course the scales will make a super yacht. So out came my Libra stamps and here is the result.

Here’s how I made it:

First mask off a section on the panel where you want the sea to be, remembering to also mask the bottom of the panel where the ‘peaceful’ word will go, then swipe little light blue ink across the unmasked section. Next spread grit past through the fibres stencil with a palette knife and set the panel aside to dry (I left mine to dry overnight but I believe it dries quite quickly if you only have a thin layer).

Stamp and heat emboss one of the scales from the Libra set 3 times on a piece of scrap card and fussy cut them out. Mark the bottom of the sails by drawing an additional line with a black pen and then colour the boats in. Stamp, heat emboss and fussy cut the word too.

When the grit past is dry, randomly make a few marks with the distress crayon colours, blending and spreading the colours over the grit past with your finger.

Remove the mask from the sky and using a mask cut like clouds, brush distress ink very lightly, moving the mask around until the sky is covered with clouds. Draw the birds in the sky with a black pen.

Using a pale blue pen make a border around the edges of the 2 panels. Mount the two panels together with fun foam and add them to the card blank. Add some stickles onto the sea for a little sparkle.

Glue the boats into place when the stickles has dried, using fun foam to make the boats different heights. Heat emboss the fragments from the How Fragile stamps set 3 times (the tiny triangle is the perfect size to make a flag for the top of the boats), colour the triangles in, fussy cut them and add them to the top of the boats with glue and fun foam. Attach the peaceful sentiment.

That’s it from me for now. Thanks for stopping by and I really hope to see you again soon.

Mother’s Day

Good Evening! We are back with more gorgeous inspiration from Jane Tyrrell…

It’s another marvelous Monday and time for my weekly dose of Visible Image inspiration.

The next “event” in my card making is Mother’s day, which falls here in the UK on Sunday 11 March.  I needed to make some cards for selling at Dotty’s tea house and decided to use the top line of the brilliant “Mother” definition stamp in my designs.

(Next week I will be sharing another card where I have used the whole of this stamp…watch this space)

I also wanted to use some specific words from the Written in the Stars collection. I used words from the Aries, Cancer and Pisces set but you could easily chose any… I think it is lovely to be able to be so personal.

I stamped and embossed them in white on black card and then fussy cut them out.

The warmer weather made me also reach for my more summery stamps and 2 sets which I have not used for a while. The original butterfly was a very early Visible Image stamp I bought many years ago and is now part of this fab set.

I also used my Fibres stencil

I made my design in 2 colourways and it is interesting to see how different they look.

I used red and blue distress inks for this colour way with some stenciling using purple.

and for a “hot version” I used yellows and oranges. This was my background mid way..

I then added some red distress through the fibres stencil to really spice it up.

Here is my “sunny” version which I also added a few sequins to…

They look so different don’t they?

Here are a few close ups..

You can mix and match the extra words..

and a last shot of them side by side..

It will be interesting to see which colourway sells first in Dotty’s!

Next week I will share some more Mothers’ day card ideas using a different set of Visible Image stamps.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and for the kind comments you take the time to leave me. Despite my sunny cards it looks as though the weather is returning to winter this week… brrr it has been so cold and there may even some snow in the south of England. Keep snug wherever you are.

Back soon.

Bye for now,
Jane x

These cards are absolutely stunning Jane! Your stencilled backgrounds are fabulous and our butterflies look wonderful. Perfect choice of words too.. thank you ♡

Happy Heart

Good Evening! We are back with more fabulous inspiration this evening.

Heather Mitchell has been creating fabulous texture with our ‘Fibres’ stencil…

Hello again everyone,

I’m back again with my latest make for the Visible Image DT and this time I’ve concentrated on texture using the stencils and the background stamps… and who doesn’t love a bit of texture!

I started by  adding Distress Oxide Ink Pads to watercolour paper to create a watery background and then, using the ‘Fibres’ stencil, I’ve applied modelling paste.  Once fully dry, more colour has been added before flicking white Gesso over the 8×8″ background.

I love the added texture the stencil gives over the already textured background

You can see from the photograph, I have then used various stamps to add yet more layers before stitching around the corners to frame the card.

Once the background was a wash with colour, gilding wax was added to some of the raised areas to add a muted sheen

I’ve then randomly stamped the number stamp from the ‘Somewhere in Time‘ set before adding the parallel lines from Sparkle in the Rain and the script from ‘Scripted Sheets‘.

The heart was die cut from watercolour paper before having the colour applied

I didn’t want to add too much more detail to the card, so kept it fairly simple by adhering a die-cut heart that has been coloured and then had a thick layer of crackle paint added.  Again, I love the extra texture this adds, especially as it’s flaking away in parts.

To finish the card, I added a simple sentiment courtesy of the ‘Just be Happy‘ stamp set which has been backed onto black card and adhered to the card using 3D foam dots.

Regular followers will know what a huge advocate of texture and layering I am and the Visible Image stencils are perfect for this.  When combined with the stamps, the images you can create are never ending!

And here’s the list of the lovely ingredients I’ve used:

Hello! Happy Friday to you! Today we have some more gorgeous Christmas inspiration to share with you here on the blog.

First up we have a stunning snowflake card by Teresa Morgan…

There are some gorgeous Christmas stamps in the Visible Image shop, and this set is my favourite…

She Lights Up Your World

Hello! Thanks for visiting our blog.

Today we have some beautiful inspiration from Veerle Moreels…

Just parts… that’s all I saw when making this project. Or look at it as making more out of your materials.  You already know I immediately fell for all the beautiful words in the Family definition stamps, and how I wanted to be able to use them on their own too.

Now when seeing the Fibres stencil… yep I was doing the same thing. Looking for parts I could isolate and use on it’s own.

I’ve kept it white but layed down some pearlescent watercolors on my structure paste to give it a soft finish.  A shame it wasn’t that easy to catch in on my photograph.

And then I chose some words that absolutely speak of my sister…

Today I am sharing the first of several samples I have made for the launch of the new stencils on Create and Craft TV on Sept 8th & 9th!

I used Distress Oxide inks to create the vibrant colourful background, stamping with black Archival ink.

The wavy design of the ‘Fibres’ stencil gives the impression of movement and works so well with the ‘Jazz It Up’ characters.
