Healing | Bird Stencil & Mask

Hello! We are excited to launch 9 NEW stencils today which are available to pre-order now! We have been sharing lots of gorgeous inspiration here on our blog and on our social media over the past few days and there is more to come! Today we have stempelfrida here with a stunning card featuring the bird mask and stencil from our ‘Time Flies’ set…

After we only just had the new release of Visible Image stamps we now add new stencils. And wohooo, what can I say, there are so many great ones! And I think, there is something for every taste. One of my favorites is a set with a bird. This one I would like to present to you today with a special technique.

Healing – The bird’s soul heals and it can therefore gradually separate again from the undefined background. I have created it with a blending technique from the alcohol ink background. This stencil was just right for this, because it contains both the positive and the negative of the bird.

My card today was made with alcohol inks. After creating the background I used a blending technique to bring in my motif.

But first to the beginning. My paper is Yupo paper. If you work a lot with alcohol inks, you know it: The typical, often used great effect of the flow of alcohol inks is especially good on Yupo paper. Papers with closed surfaces are suitable, so that the ink doesn’t sink into the paper and so it remains runnable. Yupo paper is actually a kind of plastic and therefore has a very smooth, closed surface and is virtually the non plus ultra among the suitable papers. The disadvantage, however, is that other techniques don´t work so well on it. These include embossing e.g. (be careful Yupo “paper” melts very easily because it is a plastic) or simply stamping. The surface is very slippery and therefore you not only have the problem with the imprint itself (it is really hard to get a crisp stamp image), but also that there are only a few stamp pads with which you can get a permanent print on Yupo paper.

You can also use encausting paper, which is the second choice I would say, closely followed by some ceramic papers or photo paper. But every paper is different and I encourage you to experiment with different papers. You will discover a lot of different effects.

On my Yupo paper I designed the background with three colours of alcohol inks. Then I used the great new stencil “Time Flies”. To be honest, there are actually a stencils and mask in this set. A positive and a matching negative. First I put the one on my yupo background that has the bird as a blank part. With a kitchen towel and isopropanol (you can also use Blending Solution) I wiped or blurred most of the paint from inside the bird. I also worked with a belnding pen. After it had dried again, I put the mask representing the actual bird on my bird image and made the white border with a Sakura pen. I added a little bit of perspective to the bird with copics by creating shadows around it and I also added details to the bird with them.

I described above that it is often difficult to stamp on Yupo paper. Also for this the stencils came right for me. With the new Words of Support stencil I added the word on my collage with black acrylic paint. So it stands out a bit as if it were embossed.

It’s Fabulous Friday!

Hello again! Thank you so much for visiting us here on the blog today. Pauline Butcher is here to brighten the day with some really vivid projects…

Hi there you lovely lot,

It’s Fabulous Friday, and I’m off to the seaside for a well earned rest for two weeks!

These are some of the cards I demonstrated on Create & Craft TV for Visible Image a couple of weeks ago.

My first card features sentiments and the inky ballerina from Born to Perform and the fantastic large inky splat from Somewhere in Time.

The next card was made using stamps from the Live in the Moment set. The background was created with distress inks blended over the clear embossed sentiment, which were then spritzed with water. The ripple stamps were also stamped in distress inks, and the beautiful dragonfly was stamped onto acetate and coloured with inks and stickles before being adhered to the card.

This card features stamps from the Dare to Swim set. The background was created by dragging distress ink pads down the card. The beautiful jellyfish was embossed onto acetate, the sentiment and bubbles were also embossed. The weeds and fish were stamped in two colours to give the appearance of depth.

All the stamps on the next card can be found in the Imperfection is Beauty set. The background flowers were stamped using distress oxide ink. The sentiment and stem were stamped in black versafine, and the flowers were all stamped then fussy cut, and layered up using foam pads for dimension.

The vibrant background on my final card was created with distress inks which were spritzed with water. The butterflies and words were embossed in black to make them really stand out against the colour.

Thanks for visiting, and see you after my holiday!
